Just an hour and a half northwest of Santiago, neighboring Viña
del Mar and Valparaíso are like two sides of a coin. Viña, the
'Garden City,' is one of Chile's premier beach resorts, with
excellent hotels and shopping. Valparaíso, immortalized
in the words of Pablo Neruda, is one of South America's
most charismatic and historic ports, with its charming
ascensores (funicular railways) and colorful hillside
constructions.

Getting to Viña del Mar - Valparaíso
The Viña del Mar - Valparaiso urban area is located about 100 km (60 miles)
from the International Airport of Santiago. The trip takes about 70 minutes.
There are several alternative ways to get to your Hotel in Vina del Mar:
>> Bus (1 transfer) + local taxi (total cost about US$ 15 for one person)
>> Shuttle (about US$ 80 to $ 100 per trip, up to 6 passengers)
>> Taxi (about US$ 100 per trip)
Special Bus Service from Santiago Airport to Hotels in Viña
In the arrival area of the airport, you should look for
a person with a cardboard with a written message: "HEP2010 Workshop."
One minibus (van) can take up to 6 persons. If the van is full, the price is
20 USD (15 EUR, 10000 CLP) per person. If it is not full,
the total price is 110 USD (55000 CLP, 80 EUR), distributed
accordingly per person. The price can be payed directly to the
driver (Mr. Oscar Andaur), and the traveller receives a receipt of the payment
from him. The conference administration can then issue a corresponding certificate
of conference expenses (conference fee and transport costs).
How to get to Viña from Santiago airport by public transportation
If you use public buses, please do the following:
_Take the airport bus towards Santiago; after about 10 minutes drive, please get off the bus at the
bus station Los Pajaritos (sounds: Los Pahharitos; ask the driver to let you know when the bus arrive there), and there buy a ticket for a bus to Viña del Mar and get on the Viña bus there. The frequency of these buses is high (about one in 10-15 minutes), the total price of travel is about 1500+3000=4500 pesos (equivalent of about 9 USD).
The travel from Los Pajaritos to Viña del Mar takes about 90 minutes. The Bus Terminal in Viña del Mar is in the
center of the city, near Plaza Jose Vergara, about 0.5-1km from the hotels Tepual or San Martin. Then you can take Taxi from bus terminal to your hotel, it may cost less than 3000 pesos. You can print out the Viña map from the Workshop web page (Travel Information - New Maps).
